EARLY FILMS PRODUCTION NOTES

These shorts are a product of the first class we took in college. Every week we had to come up with a short film that had to fit within the specific parameters of each assignment. And these are a few of the better ones. Because of the turn around time, it forced us to create sort of a filmmaking troupe. We would work together and come up with these scenarios then pull in Steve and Liesel to bring it to life. The films were simple but the artists’ collective-style productions were really liberating. It restricted the breath of the storytelling, but took a lot of the pre-production number crunching and paperwork out of the equation and allowed us to create something closer to jazz. The basic foundations and progressions were the same, but being able to riff with these guys on the fly was what gave it soul. And it is what makes these shorts fun to watch even after all these years.
